World Doula Week Scholarship Winner: Carrie Scott
By Carrie Scott, NCS
Becoming a parent is uniquely challenging in our busy, modern world. Often lacking the family and community supports that humans relied on for millennia, and facing complex pressures and stressors, new parents can struggle through this significant phase of life. As a newborn care specialist and aspiring postpartum doula, I believe that quality postpartum support can change that by giving new parents the care, support, and guidance they need. A positive postpartum and newborn care experience is one that leaves new parents feeling cared for, healthy, and confident in their ability to raise their new baby.
Postpartum doula training will provide me with invaluable new skills and tools for supporting new parents and infants. As an experienced nanny and newborn care specialist I am skilled at caring for babies and providing guidance and support to families relating to infant care. Postpartum doula training will add to that skillset. The additional training in postpartum care, lactation, and support of families will enable me to truly provide the holistic care and support that families need. While caring for the newborn is vitally important, families can not thrive unless the parents and family are given comprehensive care and support as well.
By combining my current skills in infant care with the tools and understanding that postpartum doula training provides, I will be able to give parents a positive postpartum experience, helping their parenting journey get the best possible start. I aim to provide holistic support for the baby, parents, and the entire family during the pivotal postpartum phase of life.
As a part of Doulas of Capitol Hill’s guiding principle “Grow the Profession” we have selected Carrie Scott as the 2024 World Doula Week scholarship winner. She plans to use her $500 scholarship to further her professional growth by taking a DONA Postpartum Doula Training.
